A partnership beyond business
The special relationship between BioHorizons Camlog and Naomi House & Jacksplace has enriched the charity’s mission, providing crucial support to families of children with life-limiting conditions across Southern England.
Since 2014, BioHorizons Camlog has collaborated with Naomi House & Jacksplace (NHJP), a renowned hospice for children and young adults near Winchester. This partnership reflects BioHorizons Camlog’s dedication to supporting NHJP in its mission to offer respite, end-of-life, and bereavement care to families with children facing life-limiting conditions. Through donations, volunteering and creative initiatives valued at £57,430 so far, BioHorizons Camlog has played a vital role in strengthening NHJP’s essential services, helping the charity expand its impact across Southern England.
Naomi House, founded in 1997, caters to children from birth to 16. It provides a space where families can make the most of their time together while accessing expert medical care and therapeutic activities. Jacksplace, established in 2010, extends this care to young adults, helping them find independence and joy in their day-to-day lives. These facilities serve more than 500 families annually, offering personalised care through hydrotherapy, sensory rooms, and communal activities. This crucial support costs NHJP £8 million annually, with only 10-12% funded by the government.
Innovative fundraising for tangible impact
One of BioHorizons Camlog’s most significant fundraising events is the National Symposium, which gathers dental professionals from the UK and Ireland. In 2022 and 2024, BioHorizons Camlog committed to donating 100% of the symposium ticket sales to NHJP, raising substantial funds to directly support the hospice’s work. The latest symposium generated £14,000, funding critical services, including several months’ worth of 24/7 nursing care at the hospices.
Beyond ticket sales, NHJP introduced handcrafted roses as a unique symbol of remembrance and support. These roses, commissioned by a local blacksmith, adorned Winchester Cathedral refectory garden in an impressive display, representing the resilience and beauty of the families NHJP supports. Each table at the Symposium received a rose, with a random selection determining the lucky recipient. This thoughtful gesture further connected the community of dental professionals with the hospice’s mission, offering a meaningful reminder of their shared commitment.
Six Pillars of Support
BioHorizons Camlog’s approach to partnership is grounded in the ‘Six Pillars of Support’: fundraising, professional services, volunteering, gifting, sponsorship, and mentorship. This framework allows BioHorizons Camlog to provide diverse and sustainable support to NHJP while avoiding donor fatigue. Under the fundraising pillar, employees have participated in physical challenges, such as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, as well as two team building ‘Hustle’, days where the teams worked with local businesses and their own networks to secure donations from a wishlist NHJP provided. The most recent Hustle secured items with a value of over £10,000!
Professional services and mentorship form another cornerstone of this partnership. BioHorizons Camlog team members, including Marketing Manager Naomi Pleasants, have shared their expertise with NHJP staff through corporate charity days and workshops. This guidance has helped NHJP develop innovative fundraising strategies and communication practices, allowing the charity to expand its reach and increase community involvement.
BioHorizons Camlog encourages its employees to volunteer with charities or organisations that work to improve the environment or health, providing two paid days yearly for charity work. In June, a team of volunteers assisted with gardening at the hospices, planting 60 pots for a remembrance wall and preparing the grounds for NHJP’s Remembering Day. Others worked in the hospice’s warehouse, helping to sort donations and prepare items for sale in NHJP’s network of 21 charity shops. This behind-the-scenes support is essential to NHJP’s operations, allowing the charity to raise much-needed funds through sales.
Ella Clayton, Senior Fundraiser for NHJP, commented on the partnership, saying:
It’s a real, true partnership. We both support each other, and that’s what makes it so special. The BioHorizons Camlog team is incredibly supportive, and Naomi [Pleasants] always brings brilliant ideas that make a real impact. This collaboration continues to evolve, getting better and better each year.
A partnership of mutual growth
For BioHorizons Camlog, this partnership is about more than corporate social responsibility; it represents a true, two-way relationship. Naomi Pleasants commented:
Working with Naomi House & Jacksplace is an absolute pleasure. They’re always flexible and open to new ideas, which makes our collaboration incredibly rewarding.
This spirit of cooperation has allowed both organisations to innovate and adapt, finding new ways to support each other and engage their communities.
BioHorizons Camlog plans to continue its support in the coming years through event ticket donations, mobile phone recycling initiatives, and further volunteering. The Six Pillars framework will guide new ideas, ensuring NHJP receives ongoing, dynamic support tailored to its needs.
BioHorizons Camlog and Naomi House & Jacksplace demonstrate the profound impact of a well-rounded partnership. Together, they are raising essential funds and fostering a community of compassion where corporate responsibility meets heartfelt care. Through this collaboration, NHJP can continue to provide a lifeline to families facing unimaginable challenges, creating spaces of hope, joy, and respite in the lives of the children and young adults they serve.
